Street Fighter Opens at No. 1 With $51.1 Million Worldwide

Street Fighter has officially entered the box-office arena, and its opening weekend has given the iconic Capcom franchise an early victory.

The latest live-action adaptation topped the North American box office with an estimated $31 million domestically and $51.1 million worldwide, according to The Numbers and Box Office Mojo.

It’s an encouraging start for a franchise that has been a cornerstone of fighting games since the early 90’s. But as any Street Fighter fan knows, winning the opening round doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve won the match.

Street Fighter Takes the Box-Office Crown

Released in U.S. theaters on October 16, the film earned its $31 million domestic opening across 3,575 theaters, with international markets contributing another $20.1 million.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the movie brings some of Capcom’s most recognizable fighters back to the big screen, including Ryu, Ken Masters, Chun-Li, and M. Bison.

Andrew Koji stars as Ryu, alongside Noah Centineo as Ken and Callina Liang as Chun-Li. The cast also features Jason Momoa as Blanka and David Dastmalchian as M. Bison.

The film arrives during a period when video game adaptations have become an increasingly important part of Hollywood’s theatrical landscape. But recognizable characters and decades of nostalgia can only take a movie so far.

A Strong Opening, but the Next Round Matters

According to TheWrap, Street Fighter carries a reported production budget of approximately $82 million.

That puts its $51.1 million worldwide debut into perspective. Although finishing first is an achievement, box-office revenue isn’t the same as studio profit, particularly when marketing and theatrical distribution expenses enter the equation.

What interests me most is how the film performs beyond its opening weekend.

Street Fighter already has a passionate fan base, but maintaining momentum will depend on whether the adaptation can attract new audiences beyond longtime players and encourage moviegoers to keep showing up.

For now, Capcom’s fighters have claimed the top spot. Whether the movie has the staying power to turn that opening into a lasting success is something we’ll be watching closely.

Stay Curious. Feed the Crave.
