Accessibility

Pop culture is for everyone, and Nerd Crave should be too. We want the site to be easy to read and use for every fan, whatever device or assistive technology you use.

What we’ve built in

  • Keyboard friendly: every menu, button and link works with a keyboard, with a clear outline showing where you are. A “Skip to main content” link lets you jump past the menus.
  • Readable contrast: text colors are chosen to stand out clearly against our dark design.
  • Motion you control: the homepage carousel has a pause button and stops while you’re hovering over or interacting with it. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site’s animations calm down to match.
  • Images described: we add descriptions (alt text) to the images in our stories so screen readers can share them.
  • Works everywhere: the site adapts to phones, tablets and desktops, and stays usable when you zoom in.

Our goal is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Some content, like embedded videos and social posts from other sites, is outside our control, but we choose accessible options where we can.
