The Mouthwashing console release date is finally confirmed, and one of indie horror’s most unsettling experiences is heading to new platforms just in time for Halloween.
Publisher CRITICAL REFLEX and developer Wrong Organ announced today that Mouthwashing will arrive on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch on October 29, 2026.
The announcement follows the game’s original PC release in September 2024 and gives console players a confirmed opportunity to experience its disturbing science-fiction story.
According to the publisher’s October 20 announcement, Mouthwashing has also surpassed 800,000 copies sold on Steam, marking another milestone for the independent horror title.
Where Can You Play Mouthwashing?
The October 29 release includes PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The game will also arrive through the Microsoft Store on PC and join Xbox Game Pass on launch day.
Microsoft confirmed its Game Pass availability in today’s official October lineup update, while Gematsu’s release announcement details the additional console platforms.
Physical editions are planned for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch through Fangamer, although a specific release date for those editions has not been established.
A Different Kind of Horror Experience
Mouthwashing follows five crew members stranded aboard the Tulpar, a damaged space freighter with dwindling supplies and little hope of rescue.
Rather than building its entire premise around fighting monsters or escaping a haunted location, the game explores what happens when a desperate group of people is forced to confront its own circumstances.
The original Steam listing emphasizes psychological tension, unreliable perception, and a narrative centered on the crew’s deteriorating situation.
It’s an interesting approach to horror because the danger isn’t necessarily something waiting around the next corner. Sometimes the most frightening possibility is being trapped with people you can no longer trust.
That premise also makes Mouthwashing a particularly interesting addition to this year’s Halloween gaming lineup.
Why the Console Release Matters
For an independent horror game, reaching additional platforms creates an opportunity to introduce its story to players who may have missed the original PC release.
The newly reported sales milestone also demonstrates that Mouthwashing has already attracted a substantial audience without beginning life as a major blockbuster production.
Whether the console editions introduce new technical improvements or additional content remains to be established. Those details shouldn’t be assumed from the announcement alone.
For now, the important news is straightforward: Mouthwashing arrives on consoles October 29, and its unsettling journey aboard the Tulpar is about to reach a much wider audience.
