Naruto is back! and its entering a new era with plenty to look forward to.

Having attended NYCC 2026 this year, one of the biggest anime developments to emerge from the convention was the future of Naruto.

During the October 10 Naruto: What’s Next? panel, VIZ Media and the team behind the franchise revealed an ambitious roadmap featuring a new anime crossover, a surprise manga project from Masashi Kishimoto, and several upcoming games.

Here’s everything fans need to know.

Naruto × Ninkū: A Crossover Decades in the Making

One of the biggest surprises was Naruto × Ninkū, a brand-new, four-episode anime bringing two generations of ninja storytelling together.

The story follows a younger Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura as the original Team 7 embarks on a mission that unexpectedly leads them into another world, where they encounter Fūsuke, the protagonist of Ninkū.

What makes this collaboration special is its history.

Ninkū, created by Koji Kiriyama, was a major influence on Masashi Kishimoto’s work. In fact, Kishimoto has openly credited the series with inspiring him to create Naruto.

Both creators are supervising the new project, making this a particularly meaningful crossover.

My recommendation? If you’re a Naruto fan who has never watched Ninkū, now might be the perfect time to discover the series that helped inspire it.

A release date for the crossover has not yet been announced.

Masashi Kishimoto Is Creating a New Naruto Manga

Perhaps the biggest surprise came at the end of the presentation.

A teaser revealed that Masashi Kishimoto is working on a new Naruto manga, accompanied by imagery featuring familiar characters, including Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi.

The teaser offered an intriguing glimpse of the Hidden Leaf Village and Naruto’s journey toward becoming Hokage.

However, the story, publication date, and exact format have not yet been confirmed.

More information is expected during Jump Festa 2027, taking place December 19–20, 2026.

For longtime fans, the prospect of new manga directly from Kishimoto is an especially exciting development.

Project Rasengan: What’s Next for Naruto?

The announcements are part of a larger initiative called Project Rasengan.

Designed as a multiyear expansion of the Naruto and Boruto franchises, the project will span anime, manga, games, and other experiences.

Several initiatives remain unannounced, suggesting that the reveals at NYCC are only the beginning.

The panel also provided updates on two upcoming games!

The Naruto TCG Card Game launches worldwide in June 2027, with starter decks featuring Naruto, Sasuke, and Gaara, alongside an initial booster set. Preview events are planned for early 2027.

Meanwhile, an existing Naruto mobile action game, originally released in China, is being prepared for a wider international launch. Its global release date remains unconfirmed.

Fans also received a message from director Destin Daniel Cretton about the upcoming live-action Naruto movie. The project remains in development, with more information to come.

A New Chapter for the Hidden Leaf Village

As a life long Naruto fan what interests me most about these announcements is how they’re connecting Naruto’s past with its future.

The Ninkū crossover pays tribute to the inspiration behind the franchise. Kishimoto’s upcoming manga opens the door to new storytelling possibilities. And Project Rasengan suggests a longer-term vision that extends far beyond a single release.

This is exactly what the fans have been waiting for!

Now the question is whether these projects can deliver something as memorable as the stories that made us fall in love with Naruto in the first place.

Which reveal has you most excited: the new manga, the Ninkū crossover, or Project Rasengan?
